Five Week Adventures! 3.18.24
Adventures come in different sizes for different sizes of puppies! This week's "adventures" include new sleeping arrangements, soft puppy mush meals (yum!), a new playpen area, walking further to go find the litter box, meeting more new people (including Grandma!), make-believe with Betsy, and some new types of toys. Amy's puppies are enjoying all of the excitement and sleeping heartily between each adventure.
Jack - 2.96 pounds
Gus - 4.07 pounds
Ralph - 3.51 pounds
Jill - 2.88 pounds
Four Weeks Old! 3.12.24
Cocoa keeps her puppies immaculately clean, so it's easy to scoop one up at a moment's notice, and the kids and I do on a regular basis :-) It's pretty normal to see one of the kids with their history book or science book propped up in front of them and a puppy curled up on their arm as they study. The pups may not be absorbing much about Sacagawea or the water cycle, but they're learning great life lessons about being great little sidekicks!
Two Weeks, Take a Peek! 3.1.24
With eyes and ears now open, Cocoa's pups are cautiously experiencing the next stage of puppy development. Their preferred spot is still snuggled up close to their mama's side, but they're happy to relax into our arms as long as we're warm and hold them close! Meanwhile, their noses and new senses are feeding them lots of new information and they're learning all the time. We're carefully ensuring that all of the lessons build a puppy paradigm where the world is a good place full of good experiences!
Ralph, male - 1.84 pounds
Jill, female - 1.49 pounds
Gus, male - 1.78 pounds
Jack, male - 1.57 pounds
Colorful Cuties! 2.13.24
Cocoa and Chester have a genetic potential for a wide variety of colors so we're always eager to for our first glimpse of their puppies! As usual, Cocoa waited until the wee hours of the morning, while our house was nice and quiet, to bring forth her young. She is very proficient at motherhood, keeping her pups impeccably clean, and the glossy coats and round bellies attest to the quality and quantity of her milk.
One of my childhood favorite authors is Louisa May Alcott, and I read and reread every story of hers that I could get my hands on. One of my enduring favorites is "Jack and Jill", which has an appealing cast of characters. Amy's & Cocoa's litters coming just a day apart provided the inspiration and the quantity of names to do the theme justice. So I'm happy to introduce Cocoa's puppies! (In birth order, birth weights shown.)
- Ralph, apricot male - 0.65 pounds
- Jill, blue merle female - 0.51 pounds
- Jack, blue merle male - 0.60 pounds
- Gus, apricot male - 0.70 pounds
