Puppy eyes! 12/27/25

Moonbeam is growing and looking out at the world with her sweet puppy eyes! She is so fun to snuggle with and makes the cutest little squeaky sounds when we come say hi! She is thriving and growing beautifully, and the next few weeks will get busy as she starts using a litter box and eating (soft) food and starting outdoor trips. For now, her adventures are new toys, new people, and new rooms in our home!




​Surprise Singleton! 12/5/25

Luna has always had robust litters of 9, so when our sweet momma decided to take it easy this time and only give us one pup, it made for an eventful week! She started gentle early labor Tuesday and I was on high alert, as she typically slides into active labor with little warning and starts to deliver pups quickly.  After a few days of no pups or active labor, I started to get a little concerned. I was about to bring her to the vet at 4 am Friday morning, (I had my hat and coat on!) when she started to push in earnest! Out came a very plump, beautifully glossy black female, noisily greeting the world!  After weighing her (11.7 oz!!) and seeing Luna relax and start to snuggle and nurse her pup, quite content with her labor...I knew she had a single pup and this momma was done!

Having been Lab lovers for 50 years, our decision to have a small dog was not easy. Little did we know that Lucy would waltz into our lives and bring such joy, that it is difficult to imagine life without her. At 5 months she is a bundle of energy, loves people and dogs, and is intensely curious about everything, except big, noisy trucks. Lucy's transition to our home was made easy due to the care she received by Lydia of Dutch Haven Dogs. Murphy, the stuffed dog with a beating heart, came with Lucy, and can still be found each morning cuddled underneath her. Lucy has slept through the night all but the first 2 nights with us. The written routine given to us helped to get us through those first unknown weeks. Included in the pages of information given to us were tips about personality, behavior, and care. I remember Lydia telling us when we came to get Lucy, that she massaged the puppies' paws and ears daily so that they were used to being touched. To this day, it is part of my "loving" routine. Getting my dog from Dutch Haven was the best experience I could imagine. We got Dublin 6 years ago and I still think of the first time I contacted Dutch Haven to picking him out to bringing him home.
