Thoughts on the loss of a pup. 8.14.26

It is with a heavy heart that I share this news. Our dear little Velociraptor puppy suddenly passed away yesterday. We are still reeling emotionally - she had been growing and meeting her milestones, but suddenly became lethargic and stopped breathing. We gave resuscitation and puppy CPR, but finally had to accept that she was gone.

Raising puppies as a family has been such an incredible joy, and a great responsibility. This week has been a tough reminder that these babies are fragile and we are ultimately not as all-powerful as we would like.

We are pouring extra love (mixed with tears) over the other puppies in our dinosaur litter.

Mindy's Dino Puppies! August 7, 2026

After leading us on for two full days, acting like she was about to go into labor, then settling in for a nap, then acting like puppies were imminent, Mindy finally got down to business. All six of her puppies arrived in less than 5 hours. Since then, the pups have been spending their time snuggled up with each other, and experienced mama Mindy has been keeping them warm, clean, and well-fed!

While these warm-blooded cuties aren't fierce, scaly, or scary, the Dinosaur name theme won the popular vote among our kids, so please welcome Mindy's Dinos!
