More Arctic Pups! 1.27.26

As Periwinkle went into labor, we were still snowbound, though the skies were sunny! This is Peri's first litter, and it was sweet to see her initial puzzlement about the wee creatures surrounding her shift to highly competent and tender care for them. The pups are all healthy and thriving under their mama's attention and we're so pleased and proud of our Peri-girl! 

All of the weather coverage references to the Polar Vortex and Arctic Blast were the inspiration for us to look North - FAR North - for names for these puppies. 

First born - Apricot male with white mitts - 0.56 lb. - Lagopus!
Second born - Light apricot male - 0.47 lb. - Ermine!
Third born - Apricot male - 0.56 lb. - Lemming!
Fourth born - Light apricot female - 0.60 lb. - Snowshoe Hare (Bunny)!
Fifth born - Apricot female - 0.56 lb. - Kittiwake (Kitty)!
Sixth born - Apricot male - 0.60 lb. - Caribou!

Having been Lab lovers for 50 years, our decision to have a small dog was not easy. Murphy, the stuffed dog with a beating heart, came with Lucy, and can still be found each morning cuddled underneath her. Lucy has slept through the night all but the first 2 nights with us. The written routine given to us helped to get us through those first unknown weeks. Included in the pages of information given to us were tips about personality, behavior, and care. I remember Lydia telling us when we came to get Lucy, that she massaged the puppies' paws and ears daily so that they were used to being touched. To this day, it is part of my "loving" routine. Getting my dog from Dutch Haven was the best experience I could imagine. We got Dublin 6 years ago and I still think of the first time I contacted Dutch Haven to picking him out to bringing him home.
