"All Grown Up" at 8 weeks old! August 26

The puppies are ready for their next big adventure - going home to their new families! Everyone checked out perfectly at the vet and they all had a great time with our canine profiler doing their personality tests. They've become very busy little pups, spending their time eating, sleeping, wrestling, and tackling my hydrangea. And they are chewing like crazy! Just a reminder that you'll need plenty of fun, appropriate toys to help your pup use his or her energies judiciously! We took some of the photos below outside and my camera (which has been acting up) was having a terrible time figuring out what to focus on - the pups are very hard to pose at this age!

Ready to explore...August 17

The puppies are getting bigger and more adventurous these days (though maybe not quite ready for globe-trotting!) Something weird is going on with my camera so I'm afraid some of these photos are on the blurry side. Just imagine how cute the puppies are in person! Jack was very excited to help with the photo shoot and took his role very seriously. Matthew wanted to be in on the action, too! It's so fun having the whole family involved as we have such a short time with the puppies and we enjoy every possible moment.

Today's weigh-in reveals the range of sizes for the siblings:
Lucy - 3 lb. 5.0 oz.
Polly - 3 lb. 5.6 oz.
Reepicheep - 3 lb. 7.0 oz.
Digory - 3 lb. 8.0 oz.
Tumnus - 4 lb. 6.5 oz.
Caspian - 5 lb. 7.0 oz.

First Outdoor Adventure! July 31

The puppies had their first outdoor excursion today and I think it was a good success. We played in the grass in the shade of a big tree, and the puppies enjoyed exploring new experiences like grasshoppers, dirt, patio blocks, and some exciting leaves. The pups don't know what's in store for them tomorrow but if they did they'd be looking forward to meeting their new families for the first time!
Tumnus - 2 pounds 4.0 ounces
Polly - 1 pound 7.4 ounces
Reepicheep - 1 pound 8.2 ounces
Digory - 1 pound 9.1 ounces
Lucy - 1 pound 6.7 ounces
Caspian - 2 pounds 7.3 ounces

Two Weeks Old and We Have Vision! July 14

Taking photos of puppies at this age is always a challenge; they instinctively turn away from the camera, keep their eyes squinched shut, are more interested in seeing if you have something tasty on your fingers, wiggle, stretch and hiccup at inopportune times, and seem at once bored with the whole operation and yet almost deliberately trying to thwart our efforts! Fortunately they're so cute we can't help but love them anyways! Heartfelt thanks to my parents and sister who spent a couple of hours tonight helping me with our glamour session :-)
POLLY is a black female with a white spot under her neck and a small white blaze on her chest. She weighs 13.2 ounces now and has a very sleek, glossy coat that will turn wavy when she's older.
REEPICHEEP is a curly black male with a small white spot under his neck. He was the runt but weighs 11.5 ounces now! (Okay - he's still the smallest, but he's got gumption!)
CASPIAN is a hearty chocolate male. He has a tiny white spot under his chin and lots of beautiful shades of brown throughout his coat - we expect lots of highlights when his coat starts to curl! Caspian continues to lead the pack in weight; he tipped the scales tonight at 1 lb, 2.3 ounces.
LUCY is a diminutive female puppy who has been in competition with Reepicheep for smallest dog present. Lucy barely tops the scales at 11.6 ounces. Her lovely chocolate coat shines with many different shades of brown.
DIGORY is a black boy with a lot of brown on his paws and a smidge of a white spot on his chest. He's a very comfortable 13 ounces and has a mostly smooth coat.
TUMNUS is a glossy black boy with white under his chin and on his chest. He has been in competition with Caspian for top dog (in the weight category) and isn't far behind at 1 lb 1.9 ounces.

Happy 1 Weekday!

Indie's puppies are a whole week old now and the three little pups are starting to catch up to the three big ones! Everyone is thriving and spending all of their time eating and sleeping. We finally settled on names from the Chronicles of Narnia...
  • Tiny girl - Lucy (from The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe)
  • Tiny boy - Reepicheep (Voyage of the Dawn Treader)
  • Small girl - Polly (Magician's Nephew)
  • Medium boy - Digory (Magician's Nephew)
  • Big boy - Mr. Tumnus (The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe)
  • Really big boy - Prince Caspian (Prince Caspian)
I'll post individual photos soon - look for them early next week!

Indie's Pups are here, born Wednesday, July 1, 2015

Indie welcomed six sweet pups in the wee hours of Wednesday morning. Two girls and four boys and they're all doing very well! Indie has been very busy taking care of the babies and she's keeping them nice and clean and shiny.

We'll be naming these puppies Narnia names (great books, if you've never read them!)

We'll be posting more photos soon. Meanwhile, you can see the pups are all shades of black and chocolate and are very content snuggled up with their mom!

What Our Clients Are Saying

Having been Lab lovers for 50 years, our decision to have a small dog was not easy. Little did we know that Lucy would waltz into our lives and bring such joy, that it is difficult to imagine life without her. At 5 months she is a bundle of energy, loves people and dogs, and is intensely curious about everything, except big, noisy trucks. Lucy's transition to our home was made easy due to the care she received by Lydia of Dutch Haven Dogs. Murphy, the stuffed dog with a beating heart, came with Lucy, and can still be found each morning cuddled underneath her. Lucy has slept through the night all but the first 2 nights with us. The written routine given to us helped to get us through those first unknown weeks. Included in the pages of information given to us were tips about personality, behavior, and care. I remember Lydia telling us when we came to get Lucy, that she massaged the puppies' paws and ears daily so that they were used to being touched. To this day, it is part of my "loving" routine. And we do love her so very much. Fondly, Sandy, Kittery, ME

We cannot say enough wonderful things about Dutch Haven dogs. Our pup has been such a delight for the short few months we’ve had her. Everything about this process was amazing. Communication, answering questions, supplies, lists. Not to mention the love and care these pups get before we get to bring them home. My girl is an angel, she loves people. She’s friendly, she’s sweet. I couldn’t be happier. ~Heather, Eliot, ME

We absolutely LOVED our experience with Dutch Haven! My favorite part is that the puppies are so well loved by the Groen family before they are ready to go to their new homes. Lydia Groen is so thorough with her communications and so helpful! The puppy selection process was also very well done. And I was impressed by the evaluation that Lydia performed on each puppy to determine their personalities. I’ve also loved all the photos while we were waiting for our precious puppy named Birdie! This is by far the best breeder experience we’ve ever had and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants a beautiful and well adjusted snd well loved puppy! ~Courtney, Dallas, TX

I am forever grateful to Dutch Haven Dogs for uniting me with my Gemma (Santa Clara) back in 2015. From our first conversation, I knew Dutch Haven not only had the knowledge of the Cockapoo breed, but also had the passion for what they do. They raise their pups surrounded by children who nurture them with all the love and cuddles! My Gemma is the smartest, most loyal dog, and she remains by my side as my best friend. Thank you Dutch Haven for breeding dogs with good health, temperment, and beauty. Huge shout out to you from us in CT!!! Christie, North Haven, CT

Getting my dog from Dutch Haven was the best experience I could imagine. We got Dublin 6 years ago and I still think of the first time I contacted Dutch Haven to picking him out to bringing him home. The process was seamless. I happily waited 9 months for my puppy knowing he was coming from a loving, healthy family breeder. We were kept updated about our place on the waitlist, and photos were shared once our litter was born. My dog is very healthy and happy and I credit a lot of that to Dutch Haven being so reputable and caring of their dogs. When I get another dog, it will be from Dutch Haven! Thank you and hello from Dublin! Kristin, Dover, NH
