7 Weeks...Almost Home! January 19
Just a handful of days left until the Mysterious Benedict Society Pups go to their new homes. On go-home day, we get countless remarks of how much bigger they’ve gotten since Puppy Selection Day. Bigger and fluffier, for sure! We were blessed with mild winter weather with this litter, so they got to experience outdoor playtimes and curriculum exercises outside as well as in places all over our home, garage, and office. The varied and daily exposures to a host of new things develops a puppy’s “so-what-ness,” or, in other words, allows them to accept changes with greater ease. During playtime, they romp and run with vigor and the cutest little puppy trying-to-be-big growls and ruffs. Then they melt in our laps for snuggles and scratches. They are adorable!
This is the first litter we’ve had in which of the 8 puppies, 4 won’t be separated. 2 are going to share a home in Pennsylvania and 2 will be neighbors in NH.

Happy New Year! January 4
Maisy’s Mysterious Benedict Society puppies turned 5 weeks today and I’m feeling like it’s going by much too fast! Each day we are holding them close to us — to our faces and to our hearts, and they are the topic of many conversations. Yes, the #MBSPups have started changing lives already — our lives, and the lives of friends who have been able to come over to hold the soft little 2-3 pound bodies in their laps and feel the puppies nuzzle into them and nuzzle into the little finger scratches received behind their ears. They’re a delight to see experience new surfaces and encounter new toys and today they went outside for the first time. None are fearful; all are human-centric, all are healthy, alert, and engaging. It just doesn’t get much better than this!
The pictures and weights are from today. After pictures ended, we switched to new collars — larger ones, so they’re more easily seen in pictures and videos. Note that a couple of them have new identifying collar colors.

Merry Christmas Puppies! December 22
Maisy and Nico’s black tuxedo puppies have quadrupled their birth weights, reached a full 21 days of age, and are in the toddling stage, which means they can start going potty in a designated area. It’s an exciting time for us seeing their eyes wide open and knowing their ability to hear is just around the corner. We are gearing up for the next phases of curriculum for these guys and gals and hope they enjoy the live Christmas music played by Jesse and the McLaughlin kids throughout the day.
We hope you enjoy the little bios of the characters from the Mysterious Benedict Society namesakes. We're eager to see the puppies' developing personalities over the next few weeks!

Kate (teal), female, 1.5 lb
Cheerful and athletic, Kate is most easily recognized by the red bucket hanging from her belt, which contains everything from rope to marbles, so that she can be prepared for anything! Cheerful and athletic describe both Maisy and Nico, and many of their other offspring.

Benedict (white), male, 2.1 lb
Wise, genial, and modest to a fault, Mr. Benedict is an unrecognized genius with a love for books and a heart of gold. Ah, will Benny be a lap dog companion for someone working or doing school from home? My bet is yes — he will make Zoom appearances!

Constance (yellow), female, 1.7 lb
She was born the smallest member, but don’t underestimate her! Constance is a strong-willed young poet with an indefatigable sweet tooth! I bet she’ll find peanut butter to be delicious and exceptionally motivating; we’ve never known a dog who doesn’t.

Sticky (tan), male, 1.9 lb
Sticky earned his nickname due to the way that everything “sticks” in his head. Although cautious and prone to nervousness, Sticky’s unequaled memory makes him an indispensable member of the team. We expect Sticky will be a fast and motivated learner like Maisy’s other pups.

Rhonda (pink), female, 1.9 lb
Kind, beautiful, and intelligent, Rhonda is the group’s mentor, giving advice and encouragement whenever needed. Ah, sweet girl, we all need advice and encouragement! Thanks in advance!

Milligan (red), male, 2.0 lb
Former secret agent and loyal protector, Milligan functions as the team’s bodyguard—mysterious and secretive, but always there when they need him! Devoted to his new family Milligan will be, no doubt.

Reynie (brown), male, 1.8 lb
Although quite average in height and looks, Reynie’s patience, perception, and puzzle-solving ability make him arguably the most important member of the group. Now, now, Reynie, remember that no one dog is more important than another, but we thank you for being patient and solving the puppy challenges that lie ahead (will you love the hide-a-squirrel?).

SQ (blue), male, 2.2 lb
SQ might be most well known for his tendency to confuse colloquialisms (nine stitches saves some time?), but his defining characteristic is his unwaveringly kind heart. An unwaveringly kind heart, manifested by eager eyes and a rapid tail is something we all love in a dog, SQ!

Hello Cuties! Monday, November 30
Maisy welcomed eight beautiful black tuxedo puppies on the evening of November 30. As always, she did wonderfully, delivering all with ease in the span of just a few hours! She has taken to the task of nursing this large litter quite well, with the help of some extra treats (fried eggs, anyone?) to keep up her energy.
We decided to name this litter after Trenton Lee Stewart’s children’s book, "The Mysterious Benedict Society", in which four extremely gifted children are recruited by Mr. Benedict to infiltrate an evil institution. Full of intriguing puzzles and memorable characters, this series is a favorite of several McLaughlin children, and we were excited to see that this litter’s gender proportions lined up with the characters. We anticipate that Maisy’s smart little pups will live up to their namesakes quite well!
Without further ado, introducing the newest members of the Mysterious Benedict Society!
