We're Big Pups Now!
The past eight weeks since the puppies arrived in our dining room have just flown by! It's been a great summer and the pups have been a wonderful part of our play - helping the boys dig in the sandpile, swing on the new tire swing, ride their bikes and fire truck, carefully monitoring the growth of the apples on our trees, and sleeping near our feet while we enjoy a meal out on the patio. We're excited for the wonderful families who will be bringing these sweet puppies home but we'll be sad to see them go!
Slightly - new name is Lacey, new home is Bedford, NH!
Curly - her new name is Georgie, her new home in Cortlandt Manor, NY
Nibs - new name is Lucy, new home is Boxford, MA!
Smee - renamed Dublin and living in Dover, NH!
Six Weeks Old Already! July 31
Four Week Check-in: July 14
We gave the pups their first experience with "grown-up" food today! Of course it was just a thin, formula-style supplement but it was their first try at lapping rather than sucking. We met with rather mixed success! Smee was the first to lap it up and seemed quite happy with the idea. Slightly soon became an enthusiastic follower. Curly immediately jumped in the bowl and then stood there squeaking because her paws were all wet! And Nibs was a total skeptic; other than licking a bit off her nose when I tried to help her get started I don't think she went back for more. (You may notice that Nibs is the fattest so maybe she was holding out for the good stuff!)
My sister and parents came over later and we had an official "glamour shot" session with the pups. It's so fun seeing how much more alert and grownup the pups are looking now! But I realized when I started working with the photos that it would have been a better idea to do the photo shoot first and THEN give them the formula - you can see dried formula on a number of chins. And ears. And paws... Next new experience coming soon: BATH TIME!
Meanwhile, the pups are continuing to grow! Starting with the smallest:
Smee - 2# 5.1 oz.
Curly - 2# 7.7 oz.
Slightly - 2# 8.7 oz.
Nibs - 2# 12.7 oz.

Eyes are wide open! These pups are thriving under Nabisco's very attentive care. Nice round tummies and bright eyes indicate happy healthy puppies.

Nabisco's Pups are here, born Tuesday, June 16, 2015
Nabisco effortlessly gave birth to four sweet pups on Tuesday morning. (Unlike many of our dogs, she didn't feel the need to wait for the middle of the night. Yay!) Three girls and one boy and they're all thriving and looking great! This is Nabisco's second litter and this time she knows just what to do; she's a very attentive mommy and is taking excellent care of her babies.
Thanks to Jack's recent passion for Peter Pan (after an enraptured experience seeing his Aunt's high school performance), these puppies are named in honor of many of J.M. Barrie's characters.
- Smee - dark apricot male, white on chin, chest, paws.
- Curly - apricot female, very curly coat, white spot on forehead, white chin to chest.
- Slightly - apricot female, curly, smudge of white on paws, white chin to chest.
- Nibs - light apricot female, curly, white chest.
For the comfort of the puppies I took these photos under a heat lamp and unfortunately didn't realize how much it was affecting my camera's focus and color balance until too late. More and better pics to come soon!
