Little Pups; Big Personalities! 8.2.23

Our time with Porsche's puppies has been flying by! Last week my husband installed another shade awning so we now have a fun place to play with the puppies over by the garden, as well as our spot over by the tire swing, and our area by the patio. This week we've seen a tremendous leap in the ability of the puppies; they're walking with confidence, pouncing and wrestling with each other, eating without swimming in their puppy mush, and engaging much more intentionally with their toys and with us. It's always exciting when the puppies start making eye contact with us and we feel like we're really connecting with each of them! We can't wait to introduce them to their new families this weekend!

Gazing at the wide, wide, world! 7.20

With eyes and ears open, Porsche's pups have completed their Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) and Early Scent Introduction (ESI) courses, and have now graduated to exploring the sights and sounds of the world around them. Daily snuggles as well as handling exercises (to grow accustomed to human touch) and stimulating (but not overwhelming) sensory experiences (different textures, smells, and sensations) keep the pups busy when they're awake and sleeping soundly during their frequent naps!

Patriotic Pups! 7.4

July 4 was so warm and pleasant here we decided to bring puppies outside for a quick photo shoot with these beautiful gladiolus as our backdrop (almost like the pups are the butterflies they're named for!) We'll do more photos once the puppies open their eyes, but in the meantime enjoy their cute scrunchy faces!

Porsche's Perfect Puppies! 6.23.23

We are so pleased to announce the arrival of Porsche's beautiful litter! Porsche is a petite pup and her babies are expected to mature on the low end of our normal size spectrum (likely right around 20 pounds). There are four sisters and one brother - all apricot and all very similar in size. (To make sure everyone is getting equal time nursing we had to put colored dots on their heads!)

Our yard is a glory of butterflies this time of year, which provided inspiration for the names of these puppies.

Having been Lab lovers for 50 years, our decision to have a small dog was not easy. Little did we know that Lucy would waltz into our lives and bring such joy, that it is difficult to imagine life without her. At 5 months she is a bundle of energy, loves people and dogs, and is intensely curious about everything, except big, noisy trucks. Lucy's transition to our home was made easy due to the care she received by Lydia of Dutch Haven Dogs. Murphy, the stuffed dog with a beating heart, came with Lucy, and can still be found each morning cuddled underneath her. Lucy has slept through the night all but the first 2 nights with us. The written routine given to us helped to get us through those first unknown weeks. Included in the pages of information given to us were tips about personality, behavior, and care. I remember Lydia telling us when we came to get Lucy, that she massaged the puppies' paws and ears daily so that they were used to being touched. To this day, it is part of my "loving" routine. Getting my dog from Dutch Haven was the best experience I could imagine. We got Dublin 6 years ago and I still think of the first time I contacted Dutch Haven to picking him out to bringing him home.
