Fondly Remembered

Fondly Remembered...

We have had the privilege of loving and caring for many lovely Cocker Spaniels over the years. The following dogs are no longer actively breeding with Dutch Haven. We take the responsibility of placing them in exceptional forever homes very seriously, and it's a pleasure to find great families for them. These special families take our girls into their hearts and lives for many more years of doggy bliss.

Apple

Apple is a beautiful buff AKC Cocker Spaniel and a member of Destiny's family. Apple loves to go for walks (as you can see in ther profile picture with Drew) though she and Destiny can't quite keep up with Tyler, Devin, Drew and Reid as they zoom along on their scooters and bikes. An extra boost of energy comes if you say her name "Apple, Bapple, pretty girl" - her tail wags excitedly and her pace quickens to a beautiful prance. She loves to snuggle on our laps while we build puzzles, watch tv or read books. If she gets a case of the afternoon zoomies, she'll run around wildly and crash into you for a belly rub and smooches which seem to rev her up even more. She's a wonderful mix of silly, spunky, sweet and cuddly. Apple remains in Destiny's care and part of her breeding program.

Aurora

AKC Cocker Spaniel Princess Aurora is aptly named a princess! She's a delicate and pretty girl who doesn't really like to get her paws wet. But bring out one of her favorite toys and all pretense of decorum is gone! Actually, it's hard to pick which is her favorite toy; she loves balls, stuffed animals, squeakers...if you pick one up, she wants it! She loves sunbathing on the elevated bed out in the yard, and inside prefers to cozy up on the same bed as one of her housemates. Aurora has retired to a wonderful pet home as the only girl with two little human brothers!

Bailey

Bailey is a spunky buff and white AKC Cocker Spaniel who lives with Deborah in Washington, D.C. A back injury put an end to Bailey's mothering days, but not an end to the wonderful relationship! Bailey and Deborah currently reside in New Hampshire with Fiona the black Lab. Bailey is active and athletic and loves to go for walks and hikes with her big "little" sister Fiona. When Bailey’s not running around, she’s usually fast asleep in a variety of odd places. She loves her toys, especially stuffed animals with loud squeakers! She and Deborah have started working on clicker training, and hope to begin nosework classes in the near future. Of course, Bailey thinks any type of training involving a steady stream of “high value treats” is an excellent idea! Most of all, Bailey adores her people and wants nothing more than to be a companion. She loves to curl up on Deborah’s lap for hours at a time and has certainly earned the title of “a girl’s best friend.”

Bella

Bella is a brown, white and tan parti AKC Cocker Spaniel with Champion lines. Bella is an active cocker who loves to bound about......inside or out. Bella enjoys walks with Destiny and the boys and has learned to walk perfectly alongside the stroller. She gets along wonderfully with all her housemates and especially enjoys when Drew assists with the morning routine of wake up, going out, and feeding. Bella is a playful, sassy, fun little girl who's tail is ALWAYS wagging happily. She also enjoys playing fetch in the yard, though it's more Madi she's chasing than the ball. She brings such sweet and playful energy into the home.

Blue

Blue is a tri-color blue merle AKC cocker spaniel. Blue has a mostly straight silky coat and carries herself like a princess - she has great posture! Blue is quiet and rather shy, but she's very sweet and loves to sit next to me on the sofa, and she's awesome with kids. Blue is a great mother, and when she doesn't have puppies, she likes to mother her little stuffed animals. Blue is now retired and enjoying a spoiled existence "up Maine"!

Bo Peep

Little Bo Peep is a gorgeous Black and Tan AKC champion sired Cocker Spaniel, sister of Muffet. Spunky and smart, Bo’s favorite things in the world are 1) her person, Noelle, and 2) her ball! A true Covid puppy, Bo was born in February of 2020, and as a result can be wary of strangers. She is thoroughly devoted to Noelle and her family, and loves belly rubs from trusted acquaintances! Bo’s ideal day would include a game of fetch, a nap under Noelle’s desk, learning a few new tricks, and a sniff-and-stroll around the McLaughlin’s field! Bo has earned her novice AKC Trick Dog title and is always adding new tricks to her repertoire!

Charlotte

Charlotte is Mya’s daughter and sister to Milly and Maisy, sharing the same Champion sire, and like them, a registered AKC Cocker Spaniel. She lives with Shirley, Lucy, and Kallie. Charlotte is playful and goofy and often has her humans laughing at her antics. When Shirley is sitting on the couch, Charlotte is usually lounging dramatically across her lap, making reading or computer work slightly difficult. Charlotte enjoys all types of toys and loves to stretch her long legs chasing a tennis ball. She practically worships her “big sister” Lucy and also enjoys playing with her friend Bailey (Deborah’s dog) during their frequent visits. Charlotte is quite the copy-cat (um…dog!). She entertains us with her obvious attempts to mimic the behaviors of Lucy and Bailey—whether it's rolling on the floor, eating grass, or lying down in the exact position that they are. Charlotte has never met a person she didn’t want to be BEST friends with. She loves Shirley’s bustling household, regularly filled with grandchildren and the periodic litter of puppy playmates

Cupcake

AKC Cocker Spaniel Cupcake is comfortably enjoying retirement with Robert & Barbie and their happy crew. She was a wonderful mama to a number of litters of pups and is now happy to have all the attention to herself. She is very tolerant and seems to like her role as "auntie" to the occasional litters of puppies that come through. The kids take turns sleeping on the bottom bunk in hopes that she’ll cuddle with them before settling in her own bed for the night. She also comes running at the sound of the recliner opening – she likes to curl up and keep our feet warm! Cupcake is generally a quiet and well-behaved dog, but she lets us know if the neighbor boys are coming over to play! She likes to play outside with her squeaky toys while the kids all jump on the trampoline. Her favorite game is “hide the sneakers” and she is currently winning! Cheese is a much loved treat, but this girl is very responsible and will help clean up just about any mess that happens under the highchair.

Darla

AKC Cocker Spaniel Darla Pearl joined the Vance family in 2021 and quickly found her way into their hearts with her gentle and happy disposition. Coming home to her is a highlight of their day. She greets her family with the excitement only seen in children on Christmas Day and with a cute tail that wags so fast, she may take flight! While at home with her, she is a cuddle companion while watching TV or will warm their feet as they sit at a desk to study. She knows when one of the Vance children have had a rough day or are not feeling well and will lay with them, belly up in the air, nudging them for extra pets and cuddles. She has tried from day one to be best friends with her chocolate lab brother, but he only tolerates her (he is a little on the jealous side and would have preferred to have all the attention). Even though he often dismisses her if she wants to play or cuddle up to him, she persists in the hopes of winning him over eventually. The Vance family believes that Darla will make an exceptional mom with her gentle, loving, nurturing, and persistent personality.

Eevee

Eevee (named after the Pokemon character) is a gorgeous buff AKC Cocker Spaniel who loves walks outdoors, "helping" in the kitchen, snuggling with her sisters, and being part of the energy in Destiny's home. She is amazing with kids and loves to give kisses. She's spunky and silly like her fur-sister Noel and the two of them are always up for an adventure. She reminds Destiny of her first dog, a black pug named Ollie. Like Ollie, Eevee is drawn to indoor plants and the Christmas tree. But if leaves or branches touch her she freezes, then begins to creep in slow motion until out from under the plant! Eevee remains in Destiny's care and part of her breeding program.

Emma

Emma is a beautiful Chocolate AKC Cocker Spaniel with Champion lines. While she was a good mom, we have decided to retire her to a loving pet home. Emma has a super soft rich chocolate coat with a white stripe on her chest, dark brown eyes and perfect little button nose! Emma is a sweet, gentle, friendly little lady who loves to snuggle with her "sister" Madi on the dog bed in the living room by the couch. Emma's tail is always wagging and she is wonderful with Destiny's boys (gentle and easy). She loves to take walks around the neighborhood, help her "sister" Sandie "hunt" in the back yard and play toss. We are so glad to have had this sweet girl as part of our Dutch Haven family.

Gracie

Gracie is a beautiful red roan (buff with red markings / freckles) AKC Cocker Spaniel with Champion lines. Gracie was a loving and devoted member of Destiny's family for 4 years. Gracie would follow Destiny and her boys from room to room making sure they were "safe" and always wanting to be near them (shower - she's there waiting on the bathmat, folding laundry - she's there snuggled into her favorite nook of my room, making dinner - she's there by the stove, working on the computer - she's there under the desk curled up on Destiny's feet). She is an absolute love and would sneak into the boys' bedroom whenever it's time for them to go to sleep. She even "assisted" with laying Drew down for his naps - offering sweet kisses as Destiny swaddled him (of course waking Drew who excitedly squeals at his buddy who he feels has come to save him from his nap). She also LOVED playing fetch in the backyard with her kong toys and tennis balls only stopping when Destiny's arm needed a rest. Gracie had her last litter and has retired. Grace is now enjoying life with her new family in Newburyport. Gracie will always have a special spot in Destiny's heart (and is very much missed).

Hanna

Hanna is a striking white, black and tan AKC Cocker Spaniel with a Champion sire. Even after expertly mothering a number of litters, Hanna is still a puppy at heart - she loves chew toys and bounds around with enthusiasm every time we introduce a new object to carry around. Fortunately, she doesn't hide the toys (like some of our dogs in the past) so she has a growing supply of interesting objects to love, snuggle, and gnaw. Her very favorite toy is a golf ball that she found all by herself in the wooded edge of our property. Of course it's about the noisiest thing she could have come across and she can often be heard into the night, dropping it and rolling it around in her crate :-) We're so happy for Hanna to have found a wonderful retirement family in Somerville, MA.

Hazel

AKC Cocker Spaniel Hazel is the proud result of breeding our wonderful girl Hanna with Champion sire Captain, and is littermate sister to Amy and Honey. Playful, smart, relaxed, ladylike, and a bit sly, Hazel is a delightful composite of manners and fun. She is remarkably patient with our toddlers and does her best to teach and tend her excitable younger sister Winter. The moment she is invited to a game of fetch, however, all decorum is set aside; she adores chasing a ball or frisbee above all else--a love she inherited from mama Hanna.

Indie

Indie is a petite chocolate AKC Cocker Spaniel who shared Lydia's home for a pleasant time. Indie is a cheerful, loving girl who adores having her ears rubbed and quivers with excitement when we bend over to give her love. She loved exploring our fenced backyard and spent a lot of time nosing around the fringe of "forest" included inside the fence. Indie LOVES visitors and usually makes a great impression with her quiet greeting and the way she affectionately leans on people's legs. Indie has retired to a lovely home on the lakefront in Maine and is spending her days exploring the waterfront and being doted on by her new family!

Irelynd

AKC Cocker Spaniel Irelynd is full of fun and you can just see her personality exuding out of these photos. She seems to laugh at the camera and just makes you want to ask what's so funny! Irelynd lived with Lydia's family and gets along great with the kids and other dogs. Irelynd's favorite game is "quick, take it outside and hide it so no one else can play with it!" She's a huge fan of her elevated dog bed and that's where we can find her pretty much any sunny day. It's hard to get a photo of her there though, because as soon as she sees us coming she's quick to jump up, ready to join in whatever fun there is to be had! Irelynd is now retired to a pet home with a younger "brother" Chihuahua to keep her company!

Izzie

Izzie is a beautiful red roan AKC Cocker Spaniel with Champion lines. Izzie is a shy little lady, but once she warms up to you is just about the sweetest pup you'll ever meet. Izzie loves squeaky toys - though she feels she must "respond" with a playful bark at every peep. If the sun is shining you'll find her curled up basking in its light. Izzie loves kids, though I think Drew is her favorite.

Jade

Jade was a treasured part of our crew in the time she was with us, and was frequently found snuggled up with Nabisco or squeezed into Hanna's crate (she loved being tucked in tight). She had a mellow, laid-back personality and was always sweet and patient with our boys. Jade loved playing outside! She spent much of her time romping in the grass, and just sitting, watching the birds and chipmunks who always stay just out of reach. She was a great "aunty" to the puppies we have come through; being young enough to be playful with them and not get too impatient with their antics! She left many happy memories behind.

Kallie

AKC Cocker Spaniel Kallie makes her home with Shirley, Lucy, and Charlotte. She is a gorgeous red roan with generous shade and color in her silky smooth coat. Kallie is a real snuggler and is quick to hop into an available lap as soon as we sit down. Her favorite times of day are first thing in the morning and late afternoon when Shirley sits with a cup of tea (obviously with Kallie in her lap!) Kallie is very sweet and patient with Shirley's many grandchildren who frequent their home and seems to enjoy spending time with puppy playmates.

Kia

AKC Cocker Spaniel Princess Kia is a gorgeous tri-color girl, with an innate desire to please. She loves to come and give hand-shakes (even when her paws are muddy!) She is always excited to greet anyone who comes to visit, and will hop up and down on her hind legs like a kangaroo if they don't come and greet her right away! She loves to walk on the leash with us, and enjoys making new friends with any people and puppies she meets. I think her favorite time of day is when the breakfast bowl is filled. Kia loves to get the first bite of kibbles, then will graciously step aside and allow the other girls to join her. Kia is one of Princess Buttercup's second cousins, sharing many of their champion bloodlines in their "Southern Gal" heritage.

Keebler

Joe & Lydia's first baby, AKC cocker spaniel Keebler, was born the month after we got married, and she was a fantastic friend sharing in all the adventures of our lives - from road trips (which she loved) to several moves to adding more dogs and our firstborn son to the family! She was very friendly and always got along great with other dogs and children (we have a LOT of nieces and nephews!) Many of the photos in our album show her and/or her puppies. As our first dog, it was very hard when the time came to say goodbye to her and she is still missed.

Lacey

AKC Cocker Spaniel Lacey “don’t worry, be happy” McLaughlin is a buff colored girl with a friendly, easy-going temperament. Lacey has never met a stranger; she’s an instant friend to everyone in any setting, and her tail wagging potential to show you seems bottomless! We think her dreams are made of eating a peanut butter and carrot stick snack after an olfactory-receptor-filling trot around the McLaughlin’s property. Lacey transitions to new activities and situations easily, finding joy and contentment in car riding, bath time, and even grooming!

Lilac

We are so thrilled that Lilac has been retired to her forever home with friends who live not far from us, so we'll still see her often! Lilac is a sturdily built buff AKC Cocker Spaniel with champion parents. Lilac is sweet and gentle with the kids and gets along well with our other dogs. She has a ridiculously soft coat and a cute wrinkled face. Lilac loves food - especially treats - and is super dedicated to escorting anyone headed towards the kitchen. Even with Lydia keeping a pretty close eye on her diet, Lilac is a little on the portly side, but she carries it gracefully and doesn't let it slow her down when it's time to play! Lilac took our new kitten under her wing and tenderly looked after even after kitty was fully grown and capable.

Lucy

Shirley's lovely Lucy has decided to pass the baton to the younger generation. After bearing and raising many Dutch Haven puppies, she is retiring in style, right by Shirley's side. She continues to enjoy Shirley's 24 grandchildren who are always coming around. Lucy loves ice cubes and comes running when she hears the fridge dispenser. Her favorite activity is sharing a cup of tea with Shirley on the sofa every morning. When Shirley leaves the house, Lucy waits faithfully on the back of the chair where she can watch the driveway for her beloved owner's return!

Madi

Madi is a beautiful and sweet buff AKC Cocker Spaniel with a Champion sire. Madi joined Destiny's family on April 22, 2015. Madi has been a fun addition to the household - being a wonderful friend and playmate to all the pups as well as an energetic little bud to Starla, Noel and Summer. Madi is wonderful with Destiny's four boys and successfully completed obedience classes. She loves to play fetch in the backyard and at the beach. Madi is a joy and absolute love. Now retired from breeding, Madi remains a much loved and adored part of Destiny's family and household. She continues in her role as doggie matriarch overseeing her "sisters".

Maisy

Maisy “at your service” McLaughlin is the AKC Cocker Spaniel black and white sister to Milly and Charlotte. Her well-balanced face with black freckles is striking and her silky coat is one we love to cuddle with. Attentive, devoted, and gentle, she is always with Catie and her 3 year old, Lily-Cate. She fully surrenders herself in an all-out sprawl for belly rubs, and as if on cue, she sprawls out on top of the kids’ school books whenever she spots them open on the floor. Learning new tricks has been easy for Maisy and she is always adding new ones to her repertoire. Maisy, Milly, and Lacey enjoy taking walks to visit their human and canine neighbors. If they can catch a glimpse of the McLaughlin’s show chickens, that makes for a thrilling day! Maisy's official name is DH's Luna Vivace, which means "Lively Moon" in Italian. Maisy has transitioned into retirement in a DH home with one of her own nephews!

Milly

Milly “life is good” McLaughlin is incessantly happy and playful with a wagging turbo tail to prove it! She’s taken after her mom in her love for car rides, perching high up on the seat to capture every sight. Milly has also always enjoyed bath time, which has been extra convenient, because in between grooming sessions, her wavy ears have grown to levels appropriate of singing “Do Your Ears Hang Low” around here in her honor. Milly's official AKC Cocker Spaniel name is DH's Serenata Luna, which means "Serenade of the Moon" in Italian. Although normally hanging out quietly with us, if she hears a Sonatina song played on the piano, she insists on singing along, chin lifted up to the moon!

Mya

We said a sad and sudden goodbye to Lydia's lovely Mya at the end of 2017. She contracted spinal meningitis and was gone before we even knew anything was wrong. We're thankful she didn't suffer but will miss her pretty black & tan face and her faithful presence always at my heels. Her spirit lives on in her children and we're so pleased to have several of her daughters in the Dutch Haven family.

Nabisco

Nabisco is Lydia's slender apricot and white parti AKC Cocker Spaniel (check out the cute freckles on her nose!) who originally hailed from CA and still has California girl tendencies (not crazy about snow days, LOVES "spa days"). Nabisco loves watching Jack play with his trains, and is the primary suspect when one of the pieces mysteriously disappears into the other room! She is athletic and clever and thinks she's a real live baby! We frequently find her curled up in the baby bouncer, snuggled up on a blanket with the baby's toys, and always wanting to be in my lap when I'm nursing. Nabisco was especially fond of Matthew and has always generously put up with quite a bit of fur-grabbing from his loving hands. Nabisco is happily settled into her forever family and we are so happy that she's being loved and pampered (and doesn't have to share her stuffed toys anymore!)

Noel

Noel! What can I say about this adorable, full of life and love pup? Noel, aka "Welly" joined Destiny's household on November 28, 2017 (at 8 weeks of age). Noel comes from California like her big "sister" Madi. Noel is sassy, spunky, smart, playful, a cuddler and wonderful with all the boys. She does like to be first when running up the stairs - which her big sisters usually allow. Noel loves to play with ALL the dog toys and can quite frequently be found playing tug with Madi and Summer. Noel loves to play outside, take walks, play fetch and her tail NEVER stops wagging. We love our Welly girl. Noel remains in Destiny's care and part of her breeding program.

Pretty

Pretty is Lydia's gorgeous black seal AKC Cocker Spaniel with champion parentage and some experience in the show ring herself. Pretty loves people, is very affectionate and soaks up as much attention as she can get! She loves munching on raw carrots and is our best at taking baths. She can't get enough of baby Matthew - she's gentle but very curious about the newest member of our household! Pretty retired to a farm in Maine and spends her time taking long walks, hanging out with the horses, and having someone scratch behind her ears.

Princess

Princess “Her Highness” McLaughlin is a gorgeous buff AKC Cocker Spaniel with champion lines, stunning dark eyes, and a lovable personality. We found out to our surprise that her long legs enable her to leap right over the dog fence, giving her free reign over the house! Luckily for us, she is very well-behaved and we don’t mind. She is great off-leash, and we love watching her trot around the yard, blonde ears swinging merrily as she goes! In quintessential Cocker form, she welcomes any person into her presence and travels well. Her hobbies (when she’s not busy supervising the McLaughlin kids) include play-wrestling with Scout, checking in on her sisters’ puppies, and licking the faces of anyone trying to do schoolwork! Princess' pups are as beautiful, gentle, and easy-going as she is.

Sadie

Sadie was a part of Destiny's home and a wonderful and loving little lady. Sadie loved following the boys around the yard (playing chase, digging in the sandbox, running after balls, digging in the snow, chasing the boys sledding - always part of the action). Sadie also loved going on hikes, and walks on our 9.6 acres. In the house, she loved to be near Destiny - following her from room to room. Sadie recently retired and is enjoying life with her new family right here in NH.

Sandie

Sandie is a beautiful buff AKC Cocker Spaniel with Champion lines. Sandie is a playful and spunky little girl who loves to play chase in our large backyard, though most of the time I'm not sure if it's the ball she's after or her housemate Madi. Sandie always has gentle kisses ready for all of our boys and just soaks up the love when she's being snuggled. When Destiny waters her outside planters, Sandie is always right there to take fresh sips of water right from the hose. She is a beautiful, sweet, cuddly, energetic, and playful little lady whose tail is always wagging happily. Sandie (along with her sister/classmate, Madi) successfully completed obedience classes.

Starla

Starla is a sweet, sassy, full of life and love pup! Starla is a Red and White AKC Cocker Spaniel with an amazing pedigree of Grand Champions and Champions. Starla loves to play with Destiny's boys - her entire back end wags (her feet do a super cute dance) when they come into sight. Starla loves to take walks and use her keen Cocker nose to sniff out all the chipmunks that live in the rock wall of our front yard. She also LOVES playing fetch. If Destiny's lap becomes available, Stars will come running. Starla lives with her "sisters" Madi (retired DH momma), Noel, Eevee, Summer and Apple.

Stormy

Stormy is a petite parti-colered AKC Cocker Spaniel with delicate bone structure and champion parents. She wasn't sure what to think of our large grassy yard when she first joined our family, but now enjoys running outside to check on the squirrels and robins who frequent the yard. She is a little reserved at first, but as soon as you take time to give her individual attention her tail goes crazy and she'll jump right into your lap! Stormy has joined a family where she's the princess - and has two BIG brothers (Mastiff-mix and Lab). She happily claimed a BIG bed right beside theirs and snuggled right into the family!

Summer

Summer is a beautiful chocolate AKC Cocker Spaniel who is part of Destiny's family. She enjoys morning coffee time on the deck with Destiny (picture <--- ), snuggling on the dog bed with her sisters, playing tug with Madi, and snuggling on a lap when available. She is gentle yet playful, sweet but silly and very much loved. Devin (Destiny's 8 year old) loves when Summer's coat is full, he thinks she looks like a fuzzy little bear. If Dev gets stuck on a particular math problem, or needs a break from his studies you'll find him either reading a book to Summer or laying curled up somewhere snuggled with Summer under his Luigi blanket. Summer remains in Destiny's care and part of her breeding program.

Sunny

Sweet Sunny belonged to our cousin Ben, a Captain and Black Hawk Pilot for the United States Army. While her dad was out serving his country, Sunny loved being part of Lydia's family. She's a lovely AKC Cocker Spaniel with a nice boxy head and very soulful eyes. Now retired from breeding, Sunny is enjoying a pampered existence with her new family in Maine (she promptly claimed space in their bed, of course!)

Sweetie

Sweetie favorite treat is peanut butter, and her favorite toys are chewy bones. (She has also been known to chew on toy dinosaurs - she's considered an apex predator!)

Her rich chocolate colored fur is incredibly soft, and she has a touch of white on her chest. Motherhood didn't come naturally to her, but we know that loving on her forever family will be completely natural!

Willow

Willow is a chocolate tri-color Cocker Spaniel who fully embodies the “merry Cocker” disposition. Charming and jovial, Willow is full of comical enthusiasm for life that quickly endears her to all who meet her. She has a characteristic happy “jaunt” when she is running in the yard, and we love watching her ears flop around as she speeds by. A slender and athletic 18 pounds, Willow is petite for a Cocker, but she easily outpaces our larger dogs. It’s always hilarious to find her curled up in high places where the others either can’t fit or won’t jump onto, like on the third shelf of our laundry shelves! She has produced some beautiful chocolate babies when paired with miniature Poodle Leo!
